Peace be with you.
This is our public prayer mail for this week.
Update, during this past week:
1) We had an interesting time during the Colorado program this past week with Lydia. The program in California during September will be similar, but more in-depth, for Julie and myself.
2) One of my aunts died in Georgia during the early part of the week. That was sad.
3) One of our nieces was married on Sunday in Colorado. That was a joyous occasion. Our daughter Ruth joined us for the occasion. That was a joyous occasion, as well.
4) Our Peruvian apartment matters have finally been completed. Much rejoicing. You have been praying for two years for a pleasant parting of the ways with our landlady, and your prayers have been answered.
Prayers, for this coming week:
1) For the traveling we are doing this week to Vermont and Connecticut, for various reasons.
2) For Lydia and ourselves, as she continues to prepare for college. Her start date is effectively August 6 with a wilderness program.
3) My birthday is this week. I am getting used to the higher numbers.

Scripture Prayer
Acts 16: 6-10
They went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been prevented by the Holy Spirit from speaking the message in the province of Asia. When they came to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them to do this, so they passed through Mysia and went down to Troas. A vision appeared to Paul during the night. A Macedonian man was standing there urging him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us!” After Paul saw the vision, we attempted immediately to go over to Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them.
Father God, thank You for all that You do. Thank You for the great gift of your Son, Jesus Christ and thank You for your Holy Spirit. Thank You for your servants, Paul and Timothy, who were so brilliantly guided by your Holy Spirit to spread the message of Jesus in their journeys. Lord, we pray that your Holy Spirit, in a like manner, guides Father Shaw and Mother Julie in their mission work. Give them visions, Lord, and give them discernment, too.
We pray for all of the Mudges as they enjoy a little summer break before Lydia goes off to college. Bless them and help the pieces to fall into place. We pray that Lydia is able to take her driver’s test and that she enjoys the pre-college wilderness adventure in the Adirondacks.
Thank You, Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, for all that You do for the Mudges. Amen.

Scripture Prayer
Psalm 43: 3-4 and 5b
Reveal your light and your faithfulness! They will lead me, they will escort me back to your holy hill, and to the place where you live. Then I will go to the altar of God, to the God who gives me ecstatic joy, so that I express my thanks to you, O God, my God with a harp. … Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.
We thank You, Lord, for this time of rest, recreation and reflection in the lives of Father Shaw and Mother Julie and Lydia Mudge. We pray for their travels in Colorado: the missionary conference that they are attending and the family wedding at the end of the week. We thank You for the faithfulness with which You have shown the Mudges every step along their journey. Continue, Lord, to shine your light upon them.
We pray that Lydia will be able to take and pass her driver’s test before leaving for college and that you protect her on the wilderness adventure in the Adirondacks which is a requirement for her before starting classes. Help her to be ready for her college studies and for the social aspects of college as well.
Let their be safe travel throughout this summer, Lord, and we pray that You will lead the Mudges into their next mission field. Speak to them Lord. May they have that ecstatic joy when they hear your voice. Thank You, God, for your saving intervention.

July Newsletter

Preparing for the future
This month, we have been making the rounds in the US, visiting friends and family, and preparing Lydia for college (and beyond). So far, we have been to Connecticut, and various places around New York State, catching up and looking ahead. In the meantime, several hundred of our books have begun to form the nucleus of a library in Ica, Peru, where Bishop Mike Chapman is working.
It has been a busy time for us in the US. To begin with, Lydia has made great progress towards her driver's license in the past few weeks (including lots of hours of night time driving), but we are wondering if the DMV will be able to schedule a test in time before she heads off to school in Massachusetts in mid-August. If not, we just plug along, trusting that it will all work out in the Lord's timing. However it turns out, it will be the right time, from God's perspective.
On Sunday, we begin a week-long program at Missionary Training International in Colorado, followed immediately after the program by a wedding of one of our nieces (Julie's sister's daughter), also to take place in Colorado in an Orthodox Church.
In September, we have another missionary program to attend, also out West. Then, in October, there is a meeting at SAMS (our mission agency) in the Pittsburgh area.
Meanwhile, we are absorbing the various changes that have taken place in the US over the past few years, both in the Diocese of Albany as well as in society in general. Among the most notable are the day to day technological changes in our neck of the woods that have taken place just in the past month or so.
And I am keeping up on my Spanish and events in South America, including the news from the South American Cup futbol (soccer) competition taking place in Argentina, and about the peaceful governmental transition about to take place in Peru. We continue to be in touch with missionary friends who are currently spread across several countries, including this one.

A Prayer by Liv Hicks
Father, I stand with the Mudges and bind any spirit of discouragement and replace it with looking at You. You have a plan for this family and You have promised to never leave us or forsake us. Give them Your wisdom as to what to pursue, give Lydia the necessary driving time, give her good practice sessions, and help her to pass the driving tests, all aspects with flying colors...Your colors! Help Julie and Lydia to heal, physically and emotionally. Give them a sparkle that only comes from You. Thank You for Your servants, the Mudges, and fill them, comfort them, direct them. In Christ we stand, humbly and in expectation. Amen.
Prayer Mail
Dear Friends in Prayer,
Peace be with you.
If you have been trying to get hold of us in the past few days (and several people have): we have been visiting relatives in Connecticut, and our communications links have been intermittent.
Thanksgivings, during this past week:
1) Our return to the US was very good. It has taken us a bit to get used to the day to day technological changes that have occurred in the past 6 months.
2) We have been on track for retrieving various belongings.
3) Our car and our internet service are up and going. Other things are falling into place, as well.
4) Lydia is making very good progress towards her driver's license and preparations for college.
5) We have had good visits from relatives, who have been visiting with us in NY.
Prayers, for this coming week:
1) Adjusting to the US. Change of culture, particularly biochemistry for Julie and Lydia, who have been sick since they got back.
2) Prayer for some contractual matters relating to our apartment in South America.
3) We are preparing for our family MTI missionary program in Colorado. We depart on Sunday. The program will be followed by the wedding of Julie's sister's daughter (our niece). Please pray for a good program, a great wedding, and safe and timely travel.
4) We gear up for Lydia´s going to college in August. We ask your prayers for meeting her driver´s license requirements (timing of driver's test, and getting in the requisite number of night hours driving beforehand), and for getting things ready for college.
5) Prayer for various other matters and arrangements over the next week.

Scripture Prayer

He takes me to lush pastures; he leads me to refreshing water.
He restores my strength. He leads me down the right paths for the sake of his reputation.
You refresh my head with oil; my cup is completely full.
Surely your goodness and faithfulness will pursue me all my days, and I will live in the Lord’s house for the rest of my life.
Father God, thank You for bringing Father Shaw and Mother Julie and Lydia Mudge safely back to the U.S. As they settle back into American ways, give them plenty of opportunities to rest in lush pastures or near refreshing water. Restore their strength Lord and lead them down the path that you have planned for them. Refresh their heads with oil and let their cups overflow with blessing from You. We know that your goodness and faithfulness will be with the Mudges in all of their days and that they will live in your house forever. Thank You, Lord. Amen.

Arrival in U.S. Message
Dear Friends in Prayer,
Peace be with you.
1) We´re back, safely. Great flights from Lima to Newark and Newark to Albany.
2) The timing of our arrival was good. We met Doris Wood and family when we arrived at the airport lobby in Albany. They had arrived about the same time that we did.
Meanwhile, Lydia met one of her homeschool friends, who was passing through the airport lobby, at the same time that we were talking with the Woods.
3) Julie and Lydia are a bit under the weather this morning. Your prayers would be appreciated.
4) Now, to continue settling in. First opportunity for growth: getting the car up and going. Tow truck arriving in about 15 minutes.

Prayer Mail
Dear Friends in Prayer,
Peace be with you.
May you have a happy 4th of July!
This is our last public prayer mail from Peru, before heading north. We depart Sunday, July 3rd.
As of Sunday morning, we should be in a communications black out: telephone, internet (for about a day or two), as we transition between continents. Please keep the journey in prayer.
Thanksgivings, during this past week:
1) We have had a great time in Peru. We look forward to a great time in the US (when we are in Peru, we like Peru. When we are in the US, we like the US)
2) We are packed! Cheers for Julie´s efforts in getting us ready.
3) We have had good partings with people here.
4) Transition matters are underway, and things seem to be working out, but it is step by step.
Prayers, for this coming week:
1) Adjusting to the US. Change of culture, biochemistry. Reconnecting. Planning. Keeping up with our intense schedule plans over the next few months.
2) Please keep in prayer our luggage, packing, book arrangements and apartment matters over the next week. Some things have already arrived in the US, and one of our goals is to retrieve them from the various people who have helped us out.
3) We gear up for Lydia´s going to college in August. This is a major part of our next phase. We ask your prayers for meeting her driver´s license requirements, and for our getting things ready for college.
4) Prayers for safe and timely travel as we go back and forth over several states in the next few weeks.
5) Prayers for our relationships with the people we have left behind. We miss them already.

Prayer for Safe Travel
Prayer for Travelers (BCP page 831)
O God, our heavenly Father, whose glory fills the whole creation, and whose presence we find wherever we go: Preserve those who travel, in particular Father Shaw and Mother Julie and Lydia Mudge; surround them with your loving care; protect them from every danger; and bring them in safety to their journey’s end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Father God, protect the Mudges as they travel from Lima to the U.S. Protect them in their long flight and protect them wherever they may go in the U.S. Give them a sense of your presence with them and may they find peace, love and joy as they reconnect with their American family and friends. Amen.
