Scripture Prayer

Psalm 26: 1-3

Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity, and I have trusted in the Lord without wavering. Prove me, O Lord, and try me, test my heart and my mind. For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness.

Father God, we pray for your servants Fr. Shaw and Mother Julie Mudge. They have walked in integrity and have trusted you without wavering. You can test their hearts and their minds and they will prove loyal to You for your unwavering love is before them as they walk in your faithfulness.

We thank You, Lord, for the path that You have set before Shaw and Julie. It sometimes seems to be very curvy, but we know that it is straight in fulfilling your will. The side trips are sometimes so interesting; the journey is as important as the goal.

So thank You for the experiences that the Mudges have had in their mission work. Thank You for the two years in Peru and the start of on-line missionary work. Thank You for the trip to East Africa and for the exploratory work in discerning whether Belize is in your plans for the Mudges. Thank You for the current state of affairs where the leading is to do on-line seminary teaching in Belize and in Tanzania. And Lord, if the road curves again, we trust that this is all part of your plan.

Guide Father Shaw and Mother Julie as they get ready for a short term trip to Belize. Be with them, Lord, in all the details. And be with them as they continue to make presentations at local parishes and at the Diocesan Convention. We know Lord that You will provide all that is necessary for the Mudge’s mission to succeed the way that You want it to succeed. Thank You, Lord. Amen.

Prayer Mail

Dear praying friends,
This is our public prayer mail for this week.

Welcome to Pentecost season, and I hope your Memorial Day weekend has been a good one.

Thanksgivings:

1) Julie and I talked about our missions activity, at Trinity Church, Watervliet, this past Sunday. It was a great moment. And on top of that, we learned of someone who might be able to help us with Swahili for Tanzania.

2) We are waiting on the official word from the Commission on Ministry's meeting, last Saturday, in Belize. In the meantime, we proceed with online course design in preparation for our July visit.

3) Lydia is in the final stages of her driver's license process. A test is scheduled for late June, unless there is a vacancy before then.

4) I am well on the way to total recovery from my fall last weekend. God has redeemed this unfortunate circumstance in an unexpected and very positive way.

Prayer requests:

1) Prayer for the upcoming parish visits. This coming Sunday, we will be making a presentation and concelebrating at St. James', Au Sable Forks. Pray that we do all to the glory of God.

2) Prayer for our time at Diocesan Convention. If you are trying to catch up with us, we plan a display booth and will also be teaching a workshop ("Sharing the Good News: Mission Field Dos and Don'ts"), at 2:30 pm, June 8 (Convention Friday), Jelinek 1A.

It could be a very important workshop to help someone prepare for mission trips, whether they are planning to go on a long or short term mission trip. Pray that the Lord would bring the people he would want to attend this workshop, and that we would pass along what people need to know.

3) Continued prayer about implementing plans to teach theological college classes on-line, from the US to students in Tanzania and Belize.

4) Prayer for discernment, provision, and guidance for our life as a whole.

Thank you for praying for us. Your prayers are very important us, and I pray for you every day.

God bless you,
In Christ,
Shaw+, and on behalf of Julie+

Prayer Mail

Dear praying friends,
This is our public prayer mail for this week.

Thanksgivings:

1) Julie and I served at two locations on Sunday. Julie was at Grace Church in Waterford, and I was at Christ Church, Schenectady.

2) Our visit to Belize is settling down into the first part of July. I am working with the Commission on Ministry in Belize, creating a structure and a plan for online courses. I am finalizing a questionnaire to familiarize myself with the students' online background.

3) Lydia came home.

Prayer requests:

1) Prayer for the upcoming parish visits. This coming Sunday, we will be making a presentation and concelebrating at Trinity, Watervliet. Pray that we do all to the glory of God.

2) Prayer for our time at Diocesan Convention. If you are trying to catch up with us, we plan a booth and will also be teaching a workshop (Sharing the Good News: Mission Field Dos and Don'ts), at 2:30 pm, June 8 (Convention Friday), Jelinek 1A. It could be an important workshop to help someone prepare for mission trips, whether they are planning to go on a long or short term mission trip. As we travel from parish to parish in the Diocese of Albany, I find also that some of the observations apply to international business travelers as well as to the experienced missionaries whom we encounter. Pray that the Lord would bring the people he would want to attend this workshop, and that we would pass along what the Holy Spirit would like people to know.

3) Continued prayer about plans to teach theological college classes on-line, from the US to students in Tanzania and Belize, specifically.

4) Continued prayers for healing. Sunday morning, I tripped and fell while preparing for services. Got a nasty scrape at the top of my head. At the time, I thought I was OK (miraculously I appeared to be, compared with possible alternatives), but in hindsight it is possible that I may have had a very mild concussion. Seeing that that was the situation, pray that my sermons were received the way they should have been on Sunday; I had a bit a trouble concentrating while delivering them because I had banged my head. I am on the mend, but still, your prayers for healing would be appreciated. In the meantime, I keep going.

5) Prayer for discernment, provision, and guidance for our life as a whole.

Thank you for praying for us. Your prayers are very important us, and I pray for you every day.

God bless you,
In Christ,Shaw+, and on behalf of Julie+

Scripture Prayer

Ephesians 1: 15-19

For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might.

Lord, we pray these poetic verses for our friends, Father Shaw and Mother Julie Mudge. We continually thank You for their great faith in You and their love of all the people to whom they minister. We pray that they may be given the spirit of wisdom and new revelations in their knowledge of You. May the eyes of their hearts be enlightened. May they know the hope to which You have called them, and the riches of your glorious inheritance in the saints, and the immeasurable greatness of your power.

Lord, we particularly thank You for the progress in the mission work for Belize. We pray that You are with the Mudges as they make plans for an on site visit and start to prepare materials for courses to begin in September. And we pray for the possible work in Tanzania. If it is your plan for the Mudges to work in both venues, we pray that things begin to come together as a sign of the working of your great might.

And thank You that Lydia has finished her first year of college. Help her to have a restful summer of growing closer to You and discerning your plans for her life.

Thank You Lord for the Mudges and all of the work that You do through them. Amen.

May Newsletter

Clergy in Belize, photo used with permission.

Mission to Belize.

Every day seems to be a new adventure for us.

In April this year, I was inspired to pursue the possibility of teaching seminary courses online from the US to East Africa. We are hearing rumors of good things from the Anglican ordination process in Tanzania, but firm details have not been established yet.

On top of these developments, about three weeks ago an opportunity emerged for Julie and myself to teach seminary classes to students in Belize from the US, online. In Belize, there is a strong desire for us to do this; it would be a key component for theological education in Belize. The Commission on Ministry and Bp. Philip of Belize are onboard, enthusiastically. In fact, very enthusiastically.

As of this past Saturday night, we have been asked to share our online teaching plans and thoughts with the Commission on Ministry, 12 potential students, and the Bishop of Belize in late July, with our eye fixed on beginning our teaching in September of this year.

There is always the possibility that we could teach intensive classes with each trip we make to Belize. The frequency of our trips to Belize and the kinds of things that we plan to do online will be determined in part by the money available to us to do this through contributions to SAMS. So, we are evaluating our financial resources to see how much we can do.

We are pleased with this turn of events.

"Where is Belize?" you might ask.

Belize is in Central America and borders the Caribbean Sea, Guatemala, and the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. The Mayan Empire was an ancient civilization in the area; Belize was known as British Honduras. More recently, there has been a high percentage of Spanish speaking immigrants; the parishes in the country are either English or Spanish. Therefore, we are planning to translate some of our materials for the Spanish speaking people who are in the ordination process in Belize.

Our upcoming visits.

Our upcoming plans for mission presentations and updates, during June, are:

June 3: St. James', Au Sable Forks.
June 8 (Friday, 2:30 to 3:15 pm): workshop at Diocesan Convention, Jelinek 1A, "Sharing the Good News: missionary dos and donts" - how to spread the gospel effectively.
June 8-9: booth at Diocesan Convention
June 17: Trinity, Potsdam

Ways to support us.

Your prayers and financial support can , make a tremendous difference.

Please make checks out to: "SAMS", and put "Mudge" in the memo space. The mailing address is: SAMS, P. O. Box 399, Ambridge, PA 15003-0399.

God bless you,

Shaw+ and Julie+

Prayer Mail

Dear friends,
This is our public prayer mail for this week.

Our mission work continues.

At least two thanksgivings:

1) Julie and I unexpectedly served in two locations on Sunday. Julie was at St. Mary's in Lake Luzerne as planned to preach sermons and make a presentation, and on Saturday night, I was asked to lead both services at Grace Church in Waterford for the next day. I think both experiences were what the Lord had in mind for everyone.

2) News from Belize on Saturday evening as well. Looks like Julie and I may be visiting the Commission on Ministry and the Bishop there in July, to go over the online education proposal, with a plan to begin teaching online in September.

Prayer requests:

1) Lydia comes home from college this week. We pray for a strong finish, and safe and timely travel.

2) Prayer for the upcoming parish visits. This coming Sunday, Julie will be at Grace Church in Waterford, and I will be at Christ Church in Schenectady to preach and make a presentation.

3) Continued prayer about plans to teach theological college classes on-line, from the US to students in Tanzania and Belize, specifically.

4) Prayer for discernment, provision, and guidance for our life as a whole.

Thank you for praying for us. Your prayers are very important us, and I pray for you every day.

God bless you,

Scripture Prayer

2 Thessalonians 2:16-3:1

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word. Finally brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you.

Thank You Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, for that love and hope and grace and eternal comfort that You give to Father Shaw and Mother Julie Mudge and to us, their intercessors. Thank You for comforting our hearts and thank You for all the good work that Shaw and Julie have done in spreading your word and all that they continue to do. We pray especially Lord that your word may speed ahead and be honored.

We thank You especially for the wonders of the internet and how this new technology speeds up the spreading of your word. We pray that You will be with the Mudges as they minister your word through internet classes in Tanzania and Belize. Thank You that the authorities in both countries are “proceeding with enthusiasm”. We pray Lord, about all the little details that need to be worked out and ask that visa applications and other minutiae get taken care of in a timely fashion. And most of all, Lord, we pray that You continue to guide Shaw and Julie every step of the way in their ministry.

We pray for Lydia as she finishes up her school year. Help her to get through her final exams with a minimum of anxiety and be with her as she makes plans for the summer. And we pray for the presentations that Shaw and Julie will give at local parishes and at the diocesan convention. Thank You Lord for every way that you provide for the Mudges. Amen.

Prayer Mail

Dear friends,
This is our public prayer mail for this week.
Our mission work continues.

Thanksgivings:

1) Julie and I had a great time at the diocesan missions conference at Christ Church in Ballston Spa, yesterday. I preached at both services, and Julie updated folks on our online missionary plans and answered questions at our table display. It was a great turnout, we connected with folks, and moved forward regarding additional online course-management-system possibilities.

2) Our friends in both Belize and Tanzania seem to be proceeding with enthusiasm over the online possibility; although culturally, "moving ahead with enthusiasm" takes on a different time-frame, depending where you live. For example, scheduling a site visit to Tanzania requires a visa application process, a reasonable air-fare lead-time of about a month, and trying to make a visit while students are on campus - which is determined in part by the variety of wet and dry seasons.

We will have more news on our progress in our monthly May e-letter, planned for next week. It will be our pre-diocesan convention newsletter. We look forward to catching up with you in June at the convention in the Diocese of Albany at Camp of the Woods, if you can make it.

3) Julie had a great visit with her parents, sister, and brother-in-law in Longmont, Colorado.

Prayer requests:

1) The rest of Lydia's semester and summer plans. About one week of classes to go, then, exams.

2) Prayer for the upcoming parish visits. This coming Sunday, Julie and I plan to be traveling to Lake Luzerne, to preach and make a presentation.

3) Prayer about plans to teach theological college classes on-line, from the US to students in Tanzania and Belize, specifically. Part of our mission work entails the online course-management-system preparation work, as well as the course work preparation itself, and there is a lot of advanced work still to do. Site visits are a necessary part of this: preparing to set up, and annual reporting in, updating, monitoring, and planning.

And two additional things to pray about, related to this:
a) I am inspired to suggest that at some point, perhaps we might create "visiting-expert" video segments of 1 to 5 minutes per expert.

b) And, I am planning on making at least some Spanish translations/subtitles, for Belize from the English class materials for Belize that we would put together.

4) Prayer for discernment, provision, and guidance for the steps ahead, in general.

Thank you for praying for us. Your prayers are very important. We sense your prayers, and I pray for you every day.

God bless you,
In Christ,
Shaw+, and on behalf of Julie+

Scripture Prayer

Isaiah 30: 21

And your ears shall hear a word behind you saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.

Exodus 40: 36-38

Throughout all their journeys, whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out. But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out till the day that it was taken up. For the cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.

Father God, just as you were with the Israelites, guiding them day by day, we pray that you likewise guide Father Shaw and Mother Julie Mudge in their discernment of the where and when of their mission work for You. May they hear your voice and may they interpret correctly the signs that You send to them, as they continue their spiritual journey with You.

We pray Lord for the planning stages of the on-line courses for seminary students in Tanzania and Belize. We pray that Lydia knows of your steadfast presence with her as she studies for and takes her final exams. And we pray for the presentations that Shaw and Julie will be giving at local parishes and the Diocesan Convention. May they gain new intercessory prayer partners and financial partners as well.

Thank You, Lord. Amen.

Prayer Mail

Dear friends,
This is our public prayer mail for this week.

Thanksgivings:

1) Julie and I had a great time at St. Thomas in Tupper Lake, yesterday. She preached, and I led the presentation.

2) As of late in the week, it looks like there is a good possibility that we may be able to do online teaching from the U.S. to Belize (Central America), with the additional possibility of occasional intensive courses in Belize. The eternal Good News of Jesus Christ made possible by 21st century technology in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer requests:

1) The rest of Lydia's semester and summer plans. About two weeks of classes to go, then, exams.

2) Prayer for discernment and guidance in the steps ahead.

3) Prayer for the upcoming parish visits. This coming Sunday, Julie and I will be traveling to Ballston Spa, on the heels of her visiting her parents, sister, and brother-in-law in Colorado. Prayer for safe and timely travel for that trip as well.

4) Prayer about plans to teach theological college classes on-line from the US to students in Tanzania and Belize.

Your prayers are very important. We sense your prayers, and I pray for you every day.

God bless you,
In Christ,
Shaw+, and on behalf of Julie+
