Scripture Prayer

Psalm 87:7

Singers and dancers alike say, “All my springs are in you.”

The spring is a metaphor for the source of all that gives life, and that is You, Father God. You give us life and You give us everything that makes life worth living. You are worthy of all honor and praise. We thank You for the life that You have given to Father Shaw and Mother Julie Mudge and the gifts that You have bestowed upon them so that they can do your work. We pray that the life-giving springs continue to flow through them in their ministry.

Lord, please be with the Mudges this week as they continue to develop and teach new courses. We pray for people who are able to provide financial support for them; for volunteers to translate their materials into Swahili and Guatemalan Spanish; for someone to develop an English as a Second Language (ESL) course; and for guidance in the planning of trips to Belize and Tanzania. Also Lord, we ask for an increase in the student body and that the students would thrive. Thank You Lord for all the springs of your creation. Amen.

Prayer Mail

Dear partners in prayer,
This is our weekly public prayer mail.

This week's selective overview:

1) We are winding down our time in the North Country, with a few parish visits to go over the next few weeks, before heading to Maine and the Albany area. I have enjoyed the visits to date.

2) Course development continues. The Google Web site library links are being updated in accordance with specific student/faculty needs.

3) The Learning Management System software upgrade went smoothly. Thank you to Bill (who did the work) and for your prayers.

4) Lydia is finishing her first college course (the courses are taken sequentially).

Prayer requests:

1) Keeping up with the balance of course creation, administrative matters, and teaching.

2) Some people have noted with regret that funds are tight in various places. My prayer would be that we all pray for people who are able to provide financial support for what we are doing, especially to keep up with the increase of what we are doing as missionaries.

3) For the organization and prioritization of parish visits over the next few months. That God's will be done.

4) For the faculty and the other staff, their circumstances and goals.

5) For volunteers who can translate our materials into Swahili and Guatemalan Spanish. One of our students has found someone in Belize who may be able help us with Spanish.

6) For volunteers who can design a 24/7 course "English as a Second Language" for our online theological context, especially for people who speak Swahili. We may be seeing some movement in this area.

7) Prospective ongoing mission trips to Belize and Tanzania: timing, length of stay, content, attendees, impact of the Holy Spirit. I have been asked to attend the October Cursillo Weekend in Belize, and am seeking to clarify my role there.

8) For the students and their families: a) for an increase in the student body, now that the program is about to expand, b) that the students would thrive despite the issues on their plate, and c) for everyone's circumstances and vocational paths.

God bless you, and thank you for praying. I pray for you every day. We could not be doing this without you.

In Christ,
Shaw+, and on behalf of Julie+

Scripture Prayer

Acts 2: 25-26 and 28

For David says concerning him (Jesus), “I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken; therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; my flesh also will swell in hope… You have made know to me the paths of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.”

Jesus we thank You for your presence in the lives of Father Shaw and Mother Julie Mudge. Thank You that You are always with them and they may not be shaken. Thank You for glad hearts and rejoicing tongues and flesh swelling in hope. Thank You that You continually guide them and make them full of gladness in your presence.

We pray for special blessings in the week to come: for any visits to North Country churches; for the new courses that the Mudges are creating; for the volunteers who will help with developing courses especially English as a second language; for translators into Swahili and Guatemalan Spanish; for trip plans in the fall; and for all the students that You help them through their challenges. Amen.

Prayer Mail

This is our weekly public prayer mail.

Julie and I had a great time celebrating our anniversary. I found a wonderful anniversary card that really captures the essence of how Julie and I see ourselves (and have seen ourselves for the length of our marriage). It is awesome.

This week's selective overview:

1) I have begun getting out and about visiting parishes, especially in the North Country. We have several visits scheduled over the next month and a half, with more in the wings as we have a clearer idea of what our upcoming schedule is likely to be. Praise God!

2) We are the only Anglican seminary option actually in Belize at the present time, and we are available to help the faculty at Kasulu Bible College with their work, as necessary, in ways that would not have been possible, otherwise. So, is the missionary work that we are doing important?Yes. Absolutely. You make it possible.

3) Over the coming months: 4 Old Testament courses will be in the works, a New Testament course, 2 theology courses, and emerging is a new item (at the request of Kasulu Bible College and others): "English as a Second Language", designed especially for theological students and clergy. Furthermore, we may be seeing a way to begin translating our materials into Guatemalan Spanish.

Prayer requests:

 1) Keeping up with course creation, administrative matters, and teaching. A software upgrade in our learning management system is planned for this Wednesday (with this Friday as a backup day). Pray that it would all be going smoothly.

 2) The program is transitioning from 1 or 2 person operation centered around what I am doing, into a wider network of volunteers on three continents. I need prayer for the wisdom and discernment to balance it all, God's way: letting go, letting God, allowing the brilliant volunteer stars to shine, keeping it on course.

3) For the organization and prioritization of parish visits. That God's will be done.

4) Increase in support to keep up with the increase of what we are doing as missionaries.

5) Volunteers who can translate our materials into Swahili and Guatemalan Spanish. We may be seeing some movement in this area.

6) Volunteers who can design a 24/7 course "English as a Second Language" for our online theological context, especially for people who speak Swahili. We may be seeing some movement in this area.

 7) Prospective ongoing mission trips to Belize and Tanzania: timing, length of stay, content, attendees, impact of the Holy Spirit. I have been asked to attend the October Cursillo Weekend in Belize.

8) For the students and their families: that they would persevere despite the issues on their plate, and their vocational paths. There are some real challenges here for them.

God bless you, and thank you for praying. I pray for you every day. You all are really great. We could not be doing this without you.

In Christ,
Shaw+, and on behalf of Julie+

Scripture Prayer

Galatians 5: 22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

Father God and Lord Jesus Christ, we thank You for sending your Holy Spirit into this world enabling us to build your kingdom. We ask for more of your Holy Spirit for Father Shaw and Mother Julie as they work to bring theological education into Belize and Tanzania. Thank You for the fruit that has already been produced and we request very large harvests in the days to come.

Thank You for love in the Mudges’ family life and in their interactions with those to whom they minister.
Thank You for the joy that comes from working in the power of the Holy Spirit for You.
Thank You for the peace that surpasses all understanding as they work through difficulties yoked to You.
Thank You for patience. Working with disadvantaged students who struggle with the English language and have not had educational opportunities like those in the U.S. can sometimes be disheartening. The policy that no student fails but some take longer to complete a course is so evident of the gift of patience.
Thank You for the kindness that the Mudges pass on to all that they work with.
Thank You for the goodness that prevails in their lives.
Thank You for their great faithfulness in listening for your direction and following it.
Thank You for the gentleness and self-control in their lives.

Amen.

Newsletter

Part of our booth at the Diocese of Albany annual convention.

It was a great Albany diocesan convention for us at Camp of the Woods this past weekend. We introduced quite a few people to what we do; the videos and display were very helpful. New people signed on. Opportunities for parish visits opened up.

When people asked me what I did, my response became: “I work in Belize and Tanzania, and when I am not actually there, I telecommute from wherever I am, including from this diocesan convention.”

We have three base camps from which to work: Belize, Tanzania, and telecommuting from wherever else our computer may be.

I was telecommuting on a computer from the Purdy Center and Tibbitts Auditorium buildings at Camp of the Woods, during the Albany Diocesan Convention. In fact, I pointed out to some of the visitors at our booth that I was sharing the same cyberspace at our booth with students in Belize and Tanzania. And, students (such as Beverley and Paul) contact us as part of their own telecommute.

How is this possible? Currently, there are several ways for all of us (students, faculty, and support staff) to access the online seminary program from just about anywhere in the globe, including remote areas of Eastern Africa or Central America.

Students might use a computer with cable or wi-fi access to the Internet, or use a telephone with access to the Internet, or use a “tablet” with access to the Internet (tablets are great, especially when travelling in a vehicle or in locations where computer access to the Internet is slow or where computer networks are non-existent).

News flash: Use of Skype has just been allowed in Belize as of early May 2013. This is especially important as a way for students to be able to contact me, because in May, Bishop Philip of Belize appointed me the Vocational Counselor/Spiritual Director, for quite a few people who are pursuing lay or clerical vocations in Belize.

Ways to support us.

Your prayers and financial support make the online educational ministry happen. Thank you.

Please make checks out to: "SAMS", and put "Mudge" in the memo space. The mailing address is: SAMS, P. O. Box 399, Ambridge, PA 15003-0399.

Prayer Mail

This is our weekly public prayer mail.
Convention has been a great success.

This week's selective overview:

1) We have had a good time at Convention. Quite a few people visited our booth, and we were able to set up parish visits. At least 4 out of 5 Mudges convened.

2) Based on the conversations that I had at Convention, a good way to describe what we do that helps people understand the mission work: We are involved full-time with mission work in Belize and Tanzania, and when we are not on mission trips in those countries, themselves, we are telecommuting to both countries, daily. Both the mission trips and the telecommuting are important aspects of what we do.

There are 3 base locations for our Online Anglican Theological College (OATC) work: 1) Belize, 2) Kasulu Bible College in Tanzania, and 3) our mobile station wherever our computer happens to be - anywhere in the globe, even in the Purdy registration area or at our booth in Tibbitts during Diocesan Convention (via wi-fi).

3) Lydia has had a great 1st week with her first online university course.

4) Julie arrived back safely from visiting relatives in South Carolina, while traveling with her father, back and forth to Colorado.

5) I have made great progress in the faculty course, "Course Design" this week. Some more work to go. I set a deadline for June 15th.

Prayer requests:

1) Keeping up with course creation, administrative matters, and teaching. We will be doing a software upgrade in our learning management system sometime soon; pray that it would go smoothly.

2) Parish visits.

3) Increase in support to keep up with the increase of what we are doing as missionaries.

4) Volunteers who can translate our materials into Swahili and Guatemalan Spanish.

5) Volunteers who can design a 24/7 course "English as a Second Language" for our online theological context, especially for people who speak Swahili.

6) That the Holy Spirit would bring to us the people we need to meet, and get us to the places we need to go; possible additional expansion plans surfaced at Convention. That we would continue to keep going at the Lord's pace.

7) Prospective ongoing mission trips to Belize and Tanzania: timing, length of stay, content, attendees, impact of the Holy Spirit.

8) For the students and their families: that they would persevere despite the issues on their plate, and their vocational paths.

9) For all the things on our plate as a family. Hannah had a birthday last week, and Julie and I have a wedding anniversary this week.

God bless you, and thank you for praying. I pray for you every day. You all are really great. We could not be doing this without you.

In Christ,
Shaw+, and on behalf of Julie+

Scripture Prayer

From 2Corinthians 6:4 and 6-7

As servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: by great endurance, by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love; by truthful speech, and the power of God.

Paul used the words above in his letter to the Corinthians. Similar words could be written by Fr. Shaw and Mother Julie in their mission to the people in Belize and Tanzania. Lord, help them to have great endurance and gift them with purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, and genuine love. May their words always be truthful and well received by their students. Continually, fill them with your Holy Spirit so that they may do your work with the power of God. Thank You Jesus. Amen.

A Prayer from Liv Hicks

Father God, Thank You for the Mudges. Help them all, their entire family, to have Your love for the people they are around. Help them to refill constantly with Your Holy Spirit. Give them all Your wisdom about anything they need wisdom on. Help each one to understand Your direction for that moment. Counsel them in the ways You want things done. Fill them with Your power to do these things. Especially Lydia with her on line college courses. Increase their knowledge of Your personal love for each one of them, and an extra dose for Julie as she spends time with her dad. Help them all to fear nothing but You. Give them all Your peace, Your shalom, Your joy. In Christ we pray. Amen

Prayer Mail May 27

Dear partners in prayer,
This is our weekly public prayer mail.

Well, I am back in the US, and things are off and running with the next phase of our missionary ministry.

This week's selective overview:

1) I have had an opportunity to evaluate where the program is going on the ground, and I have had additional offers of help. I am excited by the growing interest in the program.

2) In simplified form: the main thing that we are doing is the missionary venture, which is simultaneously focusing on Belize and Tanzania. Everything else we do helps keep it going, but we could use as much help as possible. We can be in contact with the program wherever we can have Internet access.

3) I have put together a video summary of the most recent trip to Belize and Tanzania. It is about 9 minutes long, and here is the link:   http://youtube/3MaK2E4pqNc

Prayer requests:

1) Travel mercies for Julie as she travels with her father over the next week or so.

2) Pray for our Mudge Mission Ministry table at the Diocese of Albany Convention. That the Holy Spirit would bring to us the people we need to meet.

3) Pray for sorting through the development opportunities of our online courses, for an increase in the student body, and financial support for the program, and for God to open the doors we are to go through and our obedience in going through them.

4) For all the things on our plate as a family.

God bless you, and thank you for praying. I pray for you every day. You all are really great. We could not be doing this without you.

In Christ,
Shaw+, and on behalf of Julie+

Prayer Mail June 4

Dear partners in prayer,
This is our weekly public prayer mail.

This week's selective overview:

1) We have been preparing for our booth at Albany Diocesan Convention. Come visit us if you are at convention. We believe that we will be in the Convention Hall, downstairs, with the other booths.

2) This week, I have been preparing an orientation course for faculty, staff support people, and course creators; the course will continue to be worked on over the next two weeks, with a potential deadline of June 15. This course is critical to get the new people lined on the same page who are planning to be part of our team.

3) Course development work and teaching continues, as well.

4) With power outages because of storms in the US, we are planning for a server upgrade that will weather storms better. We had a delay in completing one of our courses because of the storms. Pray for good weather, and that God would provide for what we need to do and in a timely manner.

5) Julie and her dad have arrived safely in Colorado, having visited with relatives in South Carolina. He is 85.

Prayer requests:

1) Some people are just getting the fact that my primary focus is as a missionary and that I am not really focused on too much else. We are happy to help out in parishes otherwise, but this appears to be our season in life to do missionary work. When we visit parishes, I like spreading the word about what we do. So, keep the awareness about our mission (and keep our support-raising) in your prayers.

2) Pray for our parish visiting schedule; that the Holy Spirit would arrange for us to be where we are supposed to be.

3) Lydia has begun her online college work this week. Keep her in prayer. We want this to be a successful venture.

4) Pray for our Mudge Mission Ministry table at the Diocese of Albany Convention. That the Holy Spirit would connect us with the people that he wants us to meet.

5) Pray for sorting through the development opportunities of our online courses, for an increase in the student body, for financial support for the program, and for God to open the doors we are to go through and our obedience in going through them.

6) For all the things on our plate as a family, and for all the things on the plates of the students, faculty, and support staff.

God bless you, and thank you for praying. I pray for you every day. We could not be doing this without you.

In Christ,
Shaw+, and on behalf of Julie+

Scripture Prayer May 24

Psalm 16:11

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we rejoice that you make known the path of life, that in your presence there is fullness of joy, and at your right hand are pleasures evermore. We thank You for the abundant blessings bestowed upon Fr. Shaw during his visit s to Tanzania and Belize. Thank You that he has arrived home safely and now can spend some time with his family.

There are decisions to be made about the direction his mission work will take. Again we thank You Lord that You will make known to him the path which is your will for him. Amen.
